AOL’s SafeSocial
Posted by Tom Baker in Social Networking, Teenage Years, Teens on September 6, 2010
Many kids will find this intrusive as will many adults. I however, as a concerned hope to be a parent someday I find it essential. What am I talking about? SafeSocial by AOL is what has me grinning ear to ear. There are some real shady characters out in cyberland and whats worse is outside of cyberland is the real world. The creeps you try to protect your family from just might be your next door neighbors.
What does SafeSocial do? SafeSocial makes keeping your child’s online experience a safe one without you having to stand over them like a guard in a prison. With your children’s permission you will be able to monitor their friends, their behavior and conversations. A summary of their online activity will be sent to parents for each child listed.

What child in their right mind would agree to something like this? For a parent the conversation might go something like this. If you want a Facebook account you have to agree to allow us to monitor your activity via SafeSocial. If the child wants a Facebook account they will agree to it.
On the SafeSocial.com website they spell out why their service is an important one. Do you wonder whether your children are safe on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace? Are you curious who their online friends are, or if they’re talking about sex, drugs, or violence? AOL SafeSocial can help address these worries while giving your children the independence to explore social networking at an age-appropriate level. With AOL SafeSocial, you get a complete view of your child’s online social networking activities: sites where your child has accounts, who your child is friends with, and what content your child is posting online and what’s being posted about them. We also let you know when you need to get involved, be it an inappropriate photograph that has been uploaded on your child’s account or an online “friend” who may not be trustworthy.
Internet privacy policy’s designed to make website users safe also inhibits and prohibits a parent from enforcing household rules. If my child sneaks off to a friend’s house and sets up a MySpace or Facebook account, by law I cannot get either site to close the account. If my child orders pornographic material like Penthouse or Sweet Action, I can write a letter to the publisher, tell them my child ordered the magazine, that they are under 18 and they had no right to send it to a minor. They would apologize and remove the charges from the account and then close it.
This is the message from Facebook:
We appreciate your concern for your child’s use of our website, but unfortunately we cannot give you access to the account or take any action on the account at your request. We are generally forbidden by privacy laws against giving unauthorized access to someone who is not an account holder. Please note that all users ages 13 and older are considered authorized account holders and are included in the scope of this policy.
We encourage parents to exercise any discretion they can on their own computers and in overseeing their kids’ internet use. If you are a parent, you might also consider using software tools on your own computer in order to do so. Please do a search for computer-based Internet control technology on your preferred search engine to discover options that you may wish to pursue.
Please also talk to your kids, educate them about internet safety, and ask them to use our extensive privacy settings.
Something needs to be done to help good parents be good parents. If a parent tells their child they are unable to have a certain account whether it be with Blogger, MySpace, Club Penguin or iCarly, they should be able to enforce their house rules. Something needs to be done but until then there is SafeSocial. Weigh in with your thoughts, especially any teenagers reading this.

Some Good Teen News
Posted by Tom Baker in Newsworthy, People, Teenage Years, Teens on September 1, 2010

In the wake of a horrific tragedy comes a ray of hope. People are always getting on teenagers for all the bad things that they do. In most cases rightly so. I read a letter that one teenager wrote in response to the hostage drama on a Filipino bus earlier this week. I found it a good read and you know when that happens that I force you, the reader of my blog to decide for yourself. This letter has received almost 20,000 Facebook likes from the iCNN news page.
.
As you are reading this letter, I bet that you have seen/heard about what happened earlier in our country.
Tourists were hostages of a policeman here, Rolando Mendoza. After a few hours of the horrible crime, some of the victims were dead including the hostage-taker.
I wrote this letter not just to apologize but also to let everyone know that we Filipinos are not all like Mendoza. We are loving and good-hearted people.
For so many years, our country has been standing tall and surpassing every dilemma; be it small or big. Years ago (back when I wasn’t born yet), you have watched us fight for what we think is right. We fought for the democracy of our nation.. The EDSA revolution. But that’s just one out of many.
Second. We Filipinos have been serving other countries for our families and we treat you as our own as well. With all due respect, I thank you all for giving us the trust through the years. For helping us to become what we are now.
The Philippines is more than just a group of islands. We are a nation of strong and remarkable people. A country of beauty and love known to be hospitable and well-valued. I humbly apologize for what happened tonight. No one in this world would want something like that to happen for life should be valued.
I politely ask the attention of the world. Please do not judge and mistreat us just because of what happened tonight. I have been searching the net and found terrible things. Hong Kong advices to avoid travels here, China and HK bans Filipinos and that Philippines is the worst place to go.
I can’t blame you for what you have decided but I hope that you could understand. Our country is now in a sea of problems. And I know for sure that we helped you in a way or another. Let peace and understanding reign this time.
I know that this letter will just be trash but I wish that you would understand. On behalf of the Philippine population.. WE ARE SORRY.
As a song puts it…
And I believe that in my life I will see an end to hopelessness, giving-up and suffering. And we all stand together this one time then no one will get left behind. Stand up for life. STAND UP FOR LOVE
Sincerely yours,
Reigno Jose Dilao

There are two more times spent with Leigh that I cling to on those certain mornings. I believe I was 14 which would make these two incidents prior to what I wrote yesterday.

I
It was a summer month I recall because this happened on a weekday. Two of my friends had just left and I was home alone. Leigh didn’t have her license yet and her house was in walking distance of ours. Terri had gone out with someone. She didn’t drive so her car was in the driveway. Around noon-ish, I noticed Leigh walking down the street. I was hoping she would come by but she walked passed.
A little while later she was walking back, but again she just walked passed and went home. Maybe she knew Terri had gone out (these were the days before everyone had a cellphone and people’s personal business was not public news). I sat on the couch and wondered what I could have done if Leigh did come over. Would I run and put some clothes on or answer the door in my robe? I thought if I propped the front door half way open so that when she rang the doorbell it would open up all the way, that would get her in the house. Since the music was already loud she would either have to come in and see who might be home or shut the door and continue ringing the doorbell.
She did not come back that day, but the same scenario played out several weeks later. Terri went to visit our grandparents who lived near Rockaway Beach. We lived in Beaver so it wasn’t that far but I knew she’d be gone for the day. Terri went with my cousin in his car.
I was in the living room and I saw Leigh walking this way. I was hoping she would come by but maybe Terri told her where she was going. To my delight she turned into our driveway. I ran down the hall and opened the front door just enough. I ran down to my room, turned the volume up on my stereo and threw off my robe. Minutes later I heard what I thought were footsteps coming down the steps. I barely heard her voice call out to see if anybody was home. I could feel that flushed feeling I get when the adrenaline releases and courses through my veins.
Would she ruin it and make herself known by just walking in or would she stealthily peer into my room? I was lying on my bed naked and masturbating with my head facing away from the door. I could see her peaking in from the reflection on the glass doors of my stereo. When she saw what I was doing she quickly jerked herself from my door. I was hoping she would get over the shock and stay to watch.
She did. She came across to the other side of the door and peaked in to continue watching. I felt myself get harder with excitement. I turned about ninety degrees to give her a better view and I continued. I turned again so I was facing her. She couldn’t leave now without crossing in front of the door and be seen. My coat rack was blocking my view of her face but she could still see me. I spread my legs even wider and ran my hand over my chest and over my scrotum. I noticed her hand holding the frame of the door so I knew she was still watching. It was exciting. It was tense as well as intense. Having her get away with thinking she saw something I knew nothing about was almost as exhilarating as being watched and not knowing or even watching someone else and not being seen. I finished the deed, grabbed my towel and walked upstairs to take a shower. I walked right passed her and she thought I wasn’t the wiser. I turned the shower on and watched for her to leave. About five minutes later she left. I still don’t know why it took her so long.
II
One Sunday morning, Terri woke up early. I was already awake. She pushed on my door and said she was going to the store with Mom and Dad. Our cousins were coming over and she wanted to fix a nice breakfast for everyone. I let her know that if Leigh woke up, I would let her know.
They left and I climbed out of bed and turned off the TV. I put on my robe and loosely tied it. I turned on the TV in the room Leigh was sleeping in. I made sure the volume would at least stir her, if not awaken her. I positioned myself in front of the television so that if she looked over at it, she would see ‘me’ poking through my half open robe. I also got Terri’s make-up mirror and put it on the ledge so I could see whether Leigh was looking at me or the TV. She didn’t make a move at all until I turned up the volume a little more and started flipping through the channels.
She woke up without saying a word. I had my right side to her with my head turned away from her towards the TV. I could see that after awhile she had noticed my nakedness was exposed. Her eyes watched for a several minutes, then she cleared her throat and told me my parents weren’t glass makers. I apologized and let her know I didn’t know she was awake. I adjusted my robe, covering up and moved out of her way. I walked toward my room and was almost hit by a pillow she through at me. It missed and almost hit my Dad’s aquarium.
“That’s for waking me up so early”, she barked. I grabbed the pillow and hit her with it. She got this look in her eyes and threw another one at me. I was starting to get a little pissed. This is my house, I thought. If she wanted to sleep late in a houseful of people she should have slept at her house. She started laughing and threw another one I think.

I don’t recall all the details but I do remember me on the bed hitting her with a pillow and her yelling that she had had enough. She punched me on the arm and pushed me down. She tried to straddle me and tickle me. Unfortunately for her I am not ticklish and I turned the tables by rolling her over and getting the top advantage. I tickled her until she begged me to stop. Her feet stomped on the bed and her knees kept hitting my butt and back.
The planets were lining up for me this morning. In all the scurry her shirt had rode up and my robe was completely open. When I stopped tickling her the sheets to the bed were on the floor, and my little me was resting on her belly. I looked down. She didn’t have much pubic hair but I noticed she did have a treasure trail. Our eyes were both looking down at me and then suddenly we were looking at one another. I had her by the wrists. Nervous, I let her go. I was ready to get off and scurry to my room, but she lifted her tee shirt up exposing her breasts. “Do you like what you see”, she sneered. Without saying a word, I reached down and touched her breasts. Her nipples were as hard as I was. She held my penis in her hand, leaving a trail of pre-cum from her belly button to her hand. I was breathing so hard. I was very scared and a bit embarrassed. I climbed off of her, my eyes glued to her wide open vaginal lips. I was scared for months after that incident that perhaps some stray pre-seminal fluid may have gotten her pregnant. I was young and stupid.

These are the things I think about when I wake up in the morning aroused. I would like to thank Leigh and the rest of the girls for making an otherwise boring adolescence into something most people wouldn’t even believe was possible. Foolishly, I used all the girl’s real names (except for my sister) and if you by chance come across this site, just know that I destroyed the photos yesterday along with the negatives.
