Michael Jackson Tribute Album

I know Sony is going to put together an album or two of the songs Michael recorded but they never made it onto an album. Perhaps Motown will do the same thing if they can find any.

If a tribute album is put together or already in the works, the guy in this video should be included. No questions asked. His name is Sam Tsui and he is all seven of the guys in this video. Check it out on YouTube if you haven’t already seen it.

In my infinite wisdom [insert smile here] this is the playlist that I came up as well as the artists I believe should sing the songs. If you can think of any additional or you have your own ideas, comment.

I would love to see Fiona Apple cover something of Michael’s. If that sounds counterintuitive, check out the amazing covers she’s done of other arists’ works (two that come to mind are Elvis Costello’s “I Want You” and Bill Withers’ “Use Me“). I’m not sure what of Michael’s she should sing, but I would say either something really depressing or something really sexy. Probably the latter — maybe “Human Nature.” If Lee is not available.

    Hi Tom,

I love this idea of putting together a tribute album and the artists you recommended to sing the songs are on the money. I have to agree with redfallnight though about adding Jennifer Hudson. But instead of having her sing “Heal the World”, I’d recommend that she sing “Will You be There” just as she did at MJ’s funeral. I think too you should recommend that this be a tribute concert. How wonderful it would be to have these artists perform this live and have it recorded as an album.

Lovely idea, I’ll be sure to check back often for updates. Beyonce has a gorgeous voice and loved MJ. I definitely recommend a cover of a song sung by her for Michael. Perhaps “Whatever Happens” or “You Are My Life”? And I’m not sure who would sing it, but I would love to hear a cover of “Rock With You”.

I like this concept a lot. It is a great idea and a way to honor Michael’s legacy. I hope something like this can get done. I would definitely purchase it.

Oh, and in case if you didn’t see Beyonce’s rendition to “I can’t help it”, check it out:

And this amazing singer also wrote a song for M.J. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AI73P50lpHw

You have an interesting selection of people to. They’re a great choice and you could include Beyonce to “I can’t help it” because she did such a wonderful job singing that song in one of her performances on tour. India Arie, Marsha Ambrosious (from floetry) or Musiq Soulchild can sing “You are not alone” or maybe a duet with Neyo and Jamie Foxx again. John Mayer could do “The way you make me feel” and Christina Aguleria or Pink can feature. Other than that, this would be such a great album to purchase! :-)

I wish it were going to be this way. It’s just my dream team for a tribute album. I did hear that there is going to be a real tribute album but so many artists want to be a part of it. Happy early birthday Judy.

MJ was brilliant. It was a shame he died, he was loved all over the world. “Billie Jean” was really good.

Wow, Prince would be an interesting choice for “Man in the Mirror”. Yeah, I’d like to hear that! I could see Carrie Underwood for “Farewell My Summer Love”. I loved David Cook’s rendition of “Billie Jean” on AI, so yeah, I think that’s a good choice, too. Janet’s voice would sound so sweet singing “Gone Too Soon”. I would actually like to hear a cover “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” by Maroon Five.

Let’s see, I think I’d like Norah Jones singing “Human Nature”. For “Stranger in Moscow”, I’d like to hear U2 or Adam Lambert… strange choices for that song, I know. I think I’d like Jennifer Hudson for “Heal the World”. Or would that be too many AI people on an album? ;)

I’d actually like to include a rock cover of “The Lady in my Life”.

I just put an MJ poll on my blog if you’re interested :)

If Charisse is going to be on the album she should sing a Jackson 5 song. ABC or Got To Be There.
