A Few Erectional Changes

I know all of you understand maintaining a posting schedule for your blog takes a lot of work. It takes dedication whether you post everyday, twice a week, once a month or every other day as I try to do. As of today I have amassed two months of finished posts which takes me up until late February. I have also created a few drafts with post ideas which might give me a few weeks more.

Recently I received the Versatile Blogger Award. I was honored to receive the award no doubt. The award itself lost its meaning, its uniqueness when I learned that I had to then pass the award on to at least 15 more bloggers. It seems kind of forced and losses something when mass distributed. Like Seth said, “it loses its effectiveness and value/special-ness if passed on to many bloggers at once.” Along with passing it on to others, you are required to answer questions about yourself or tell things about yourself. It seems more like a punishment than a reward (remember that I still do appreciate receiving this award).

I understand completely that the award gets spread throughout the Internet this way, in addition to the accountability factor. You can’t just give yourself the award! In late November after I posted that I got the award I decided to create my own award. It’s been in the back of my mind for a long time now so I felt it was a great time to start it. I created a new blog in an attempt to distance myself (but not completely) from the stigma that is sometimes associated with the Morning Erection name.

I’ve also enlisted the help of several additional bloggers to serve along with me as the selection committee (see previous post). The award requires only that you stop by the blog and choose the graphic you like best and place it on your blog. Don’t pass it on to anyone and there are not any questions to answer. You can quietly place it in your sidebar or if you choose to do so, create a post about it.

It’s call the First Class Blogger Award. We will pick four blogs per week to give the First Class Blogger Award to and we will keep a running list of all the bloggers who we have given the award to. Every week we will publish the four winners in a blog post on the site.

You can also nominate a site if you feel they are deserving. With all that in mind, I will be dividing my time between the two sites which means less time to dedicate to Morning Erection. Of course that means some changes. I don’t know what all the changes will entail, but I do know after February I will no longer be contributing a poem to Poetic License but there will still be eight poems every month. There will probably be more photos and wallpaper posts because they are fast and easy.

Thanks for understanding and please let me know what you think about the First Class Blogger Award. Also if you would like to nominate a blog, please go to the site and do so.

I have such a huge amount of respect for disciplined writers!!!! And a huge amount of jealousy!!!!! When I first started blogging, I posted about 4 or 5 times a WEEK. Now if I post more than 4 or 5 times in a MONTH, I consider that a very good month!

Love the new idea/award/blog. Keep up the great work!!!!

Kelly, I sent you an email about the award blog. I hope you got it. Thanks for the compliment.

This is a great idea. You know how to contact me to give me mine! Seriously, good luck with that. I came by to look at Melissa’s responses. I hope they go up today.

I’ve been posting blogs once a month lately – you should share tips on how to do it every other day in advance. I mostly post three times a week and that was a couple of months ago. I’m trying to find my way back to that road again.

Anyway, I agree with mass (and forced) awards make the award less meaningful and I appreciate that you’re trying to make the system better. This post is an inspiration in itself, Tom. Thanks for sharing!

Lusy, I will see what I can do about the post ideas. So many people have different commitments and stress and schedules but I will see about doing a post for you and others too who have trouble posting regularly. Glad to see you here once again!

Great idea. I agree when an award gets passed on in such mass quantity it is devalued. Although you totally deserve a versatile award because what isn’t covered on here? Maybe how to sew clothes for a pet mouse I suppose, but you cover everything. I think you have a good idea going with the award. Is there a link to that site yet?

Wow I am so jealous you are ahead writing. One day I will be one post ahead which would be a start ;).

So is your new blog not up yet? I’m kind of confused lol maybe its from lack of coffee.

Anyways, the award seems like a nice idea :) I like how it’s not a chain award, something you feel you “have to” pass on.

The new blog is up and the first recipients will get their notice this week. The post goes live on December 26th whether or not they accept the award.
