31 Days Of Blogging Honesty: Day 19

The longest period of time I’ve gone without showering or bathing is…

Of all the 31 questions, this is the one I thought people would be more apt to lie about! I’m just sayin’…

I’m not saying anyone will lie, I just think it presents itself as something extremely personal, self conscious, and a measure as to how they conduct themselves daily. As for me, I’ve gone four days without showering. I recall being sick and not being able to even get out of bed by myself. I needed help just to go to the bathroom so of course standing alone in a shower was out of the question. I was really weak with a stomach ailment. It had a name but I forget what it was called.

I can tell you that it felt great to feel better again but even better to finally take a shower. You can stop frowning now. Four days is a lot, but it’s not like I was out and about.

Oh, I can easily go about 4-5 days all of the time and it’s not a biggie for me. I seriously think that people are way too consumed with cleanliness and just cleansers in general. We have “specialty” cleansers for just about every bit of ours bodies…it’s like we hate the natural smells of hair and pheromones and stuff. Douching? I mean, is this necessary? Anyway, sorry….the longest I have gone is probably no more than 17 days. But I did brush my teeth.

I don’t want to tell all of the details, because I’ll be blogging about it soon, but the longest I’ve gone is a bit more than a week. Don’t worry, it was for a good reason. Not bathing when you’re really sick is a good excuse. My husband went 60 days while he was out on manuevers in the Army. I can’t even begin to imagine him that dirty!

    Good post!

You know, 4 days isn’t so bad, especially when you’re sick. I’ve been fortunate enough to not have been too sick (as far as I can remember) *knock on wood*, so I’ve never had to experience that. I think when it comes to that it’s totally acceptable. And really, sometimes people can go longer periods of time without showering before people notice. I’m surprised I didn’t lie and say I showered every day, but yeah, i can go about 2 days before I really need to (I have oily hair, I hates it). I’m glad to hear you’re not sick now though, that would be very sad indeed!

I think I had that stomach ailment once after returning from a trip overseas. I’m not positive, but pretty sure it was called “You’d rather be dead.” The best part about the whole thing? One of the side-effects of the medicine prescribed to get better was “the runs” – along with a warning to call your doctor should you experience any of the listed side effects. Makes about as much sense as taking a pain pill whose side effect is excruciating pain.

I wasn’t overseas and the doctor(s) were not sure what it was. Food stayed in my gut for days instead of emptying. It was painful and at times I felt like I’d rather be dead.

Ah, the same name of the disease, but complete opposite symptoms… I’m not sure which of the two I’d rather have…

One week for me and I’m unhappy to announce it was not because I was sick. I was tired of my job and needed a break. I decided to call out sick and I stayed on the couch watching television and movies for the entire time. I ordered take out food and was happy to be a couch potato for seven long days.

I was happy to take a shower and ready for work after that!

Sounds like a funky good time!

It was a long, long span of days for me, although I can’t remember exactly too long! When I was out at Orcalab, they had one shower for everyone on the main island so each person could only shower ever few days there. When I moved out to the cliffs, I took exactly one shower over the course of three weeks. (That “shower” was actually standing under a cold water seep from the a low-hanging edge of the island, and was only reachable by traversing some dangerous terrain.) This all was just dandy to 18-year-old me, but 32-year-old me wouldn’t be quite so keen on it!

Three weeks seems like an eternity. Maybe if I do this again I will ask about brushing teeth. Three weeks?

3 days for me, for the same reasons, being sick :)!

Being sick seems to be a good reason not to wash.
