Dark Shadows: The First Movie Of 2012 To Get Me In The Theater

I usually don’t divulge online my whereabouts at any given time. It’s just common sense to me. There are so many predators lurking in the dark recesses of the internet you know. However, let it be known that on May 11, 2012 I will be in a dark corner of a dark theater, watching Dark Shadows. Johnny Depp is one of the best actors on the planet today and probably could play any part imaginable. Maybe a remake of Tootsie?

That being said, I have seen the first images of The Lone Ranger and it makes me cringe. Nonetheless I will still go see it. Back to Dark Shadows. Barnabas Collins is an older than dirt (200 years old) vampire. He was a part of a dark and strange family on an even darker soap opera in the early seventies. There is a large cult following for Dark Shadows even if you have never heard of the show. No where near the following that Star Trek or The Brady Bunch has but still very large.

I’m not a big fan of the movie’s director, Tim Burton but if the trailer indicates how much fun the movie will be — I have got to be there. If you are there too, save me some popcorn.

Dark Shadows

A gothic-horror tale centering on the life of vampire Barnabas Collins and his run-ins with various monsters, witches, werewolves and ghosts.
Based on the 70’s cult TV series Dark Shadows.

Director: Tim Burton
Writers: Dan Curtis (characters), Seth Grahame-Smith (screenplay)
Stars: Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Eva Green

I think this sounds like a must see. Do give a review once you’ve seen it.
I always remember Johnny Depp in Edward Sissorhand. He was cartoon-like in it.
He always plays these very avant garde characters. I considor him more theatrical.
Tim Burton and I go way back. I had to write a thesis on him and theater arts in college.
First impressive thing I read about him while doing my research was that he worked for
    Disney.
    Awaiting movie critique ….

Isadora my friend. I am not very good at writing reviews. Cherlyn is one heck of a good reviewer. But for you I will try.

I am in love with Johnny Depp so just like any other movie, I will be there opening night even though I have no idea what Dark Shadows was.

Everybody knows you are in love with Depp. I’m gonna see it but I don’t think it will be opening night. Make sure you let me know what you think of it. I hope school is going well.

Talk about dejavu — I’d forgotten the show, but you reminded me of how much I loved it waaay back then with your post. Now I have a surprise for you:

About a month ago, I switched from blogging on Blogger.com to WordPress.com. The change has been remarkable. The readers on WordPress are far more interactive than those on Blogger. I feel welcomed into the new WordPress community.

In that vein, a real sweetheart made my day, by nominating me for The Versatile Blogger Award. A “shout out” and thank you to Turber of http://looserornot.wordpress.com/ for the nomination.

Now, I am nominating YOU! You have been one of the bloggers who has welcomed me, so this is my way of thanking you.

On March 20, I will post your site on my blog as a nominee for the Versatile Blogger Award. Please read the post that day to find out all the details. There is a nice award .jpeg you can add to your site.

Bless you and thank you very much! Don’t tell anyone I said this but unless you want to make money with your blog, I don’t know why anyone would choose any other platform. WordPress by far has the best blogging community and I have made so many contacts and friends; it would blow your mind. I love it here and I am so very glad to have met you. I will try somehow to introduce you to some of the great bloggers I know. If you want to get started sooner, read my blogroll. When you get to a site, tell them I sent you. See the welcome you get then!

Johnny is my most favorite actor of all time. And yes, I did see Alice in Wonderland and only because he was in it. There was a sort of humble grace to his character and even though his eyes were enhanced/altered, I could still see “my” Johnny in them and it made me smile. :) I admit I haven’t seen every movie he’s been in, but I try to. There’s just something about him… Still trying to put my finger on it and I don’t think it’s just because of his good looks. It’s more than that – I find him to be refreshing, humble, and very talented. I can not wait to see Dark Shadows and I appreciate you posting the trailer. I didn’t know they were going to put a humorous spin on it, but I like what I see so far.

I told someone else today that Depp reminds me of a Cary Grant because Cary could do anything. Regular comedy, slapstick, very serious dramas. If you are not too familiar with Grant, I recommend seeing Arsenic and Old Lace first! Thank you for coming by.

I’ve been perusing your blog and I like what I see so I’ve subscribed! I found you earlier by jumping over from the “Snotting Black” blog. Thank you for the Cary Grant suggestions as well. I am a 70’s born chick myself and have seen Cary in some movies, but admittedly just glanced over them as a kid. Now that I’m older and can appreciate talent of every era, I will revisit those movies! You’re right, Depp falls in that category. He can pretty much do anything – I had that thought a few years ago when I saw Sweeney Todd :) (singing and all!). Blessings to you! I look forward to following you. Catchy blog name by the way! LOL

Thanks Vanessa. I don’t know if the 30 Days fits into your blog plans but please consider participating. Thanks for the comments. I have not had time to look around your blog yet. Just the one post. For every one person that like the blog name, ten stay away. What can I do?

I’m a big Tim Burton fan, and “Dark Shadows” looks like a return to what he does best after the disappointing “Alice in Wonderland.”

    • #12 by Tom Baker on March 18, 2012 - 12:35 PM

Alice is the first Depp movie I did not see and have no intentions of ever seeing. Thanks for the heads up anyway.

The problem with it is that it just seems like everyone (in front of and behind the cameras) are just going through their paces. It looks great, but has no impact whatsoever. It’s like watching someone else play a video game.

I eagerly await this movie! The Tim Burton team is always a must-see for me. :) Plus, Johnny Depp is ten times [okay, 10millionx] better than that shiny guy thing who was in Twilight :))

    • #15 by Tom Baker on March 18, 2012 - 12:23 PM

The Twilight trilogy is just not something I am interested in! It’s been nice getting to know you. I hope it continues.

      • #16 by koisevilla on March 18, 2012 - 12:25 PM

The Twilight trilogy is something I wished I did not know :))

        • #17 by Tom Baker on March 18, 2012 - 12:34 PM

You made me smile. Thank you.

just returning the favor! you’re welcome :)

Not a Johnny Depp fan but this movie might make me!

    • #20 by Tom Baker on March 18, 2012 - 11:14 AM

If you see it let me know Addie. How are you doing by the way?

      • #21 by Addie on March 18, 2012 - 11:18 AM

I ate lots of sweets today, and for someone who doesn’t have a sweet tooth, it’s quite alarming. Naaah. I’m fine, Tom. Thanks.

        • #22 by Tom Baker on March 18, 2012 - 11:20 AM

Is that how you intend to stay sweet yourself?

          • #23 by Addie on March 18, 2012 - 11:24 AM

If that’s all what it takes to be, Tom. People around me would really like that. How do you stay sweet?

          • #24 by Tom Baker on March 18, 2012 - 11:28 AM

Men aren’t sweet Addie. If you mean nice, I owe who I am to God, family and friends. That includes you!

          • #25 by Addie on March 18, 2012 - 11:32 AM

Aw, that’s so ‘sweet’ Tom. You rock.
