30 Days Of Blogging Honesty: Day 18

I would agree or disagree that high school is/was the time of my life… Because…

Hopefully I still have so much more time left to live. Before I get on with the response I want to let you know what I was just doing. I was outside using a new app I just purchased called Night Sky. With it I was able to see and identify four planets tonight. Venus is one of them and is the brightest object in the night sky. It is amazingly bright. I also saw Mars and Saturn. Earlier in the evening Jupiter was still visible but I did not get the chance to see it.

If you get the opportunity tomorrow night just look up in the Western sky and take a look at Venus. If you’ve never seen it, you should take the time to do so especially since one of the 30 questions dealt with the mysteries of the universe. Admittedly not everyone is interested in astronomy but we are talking about a planet here.

Jupiter is seen below the horizon. Anything above the ‘W’ is visible above the horizon.

Back to high school. While I will agree that I did have some wonderful times in school and have made some life long friendships, I think I have the best part of my life ahead of me. In fact I would dread life knowing that my best times were behind me. Here’s looking at you, future!

Awesome app, I guess I really do need a smart phone, just so I can be sure to see Venus!

    • #2 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:32 AM

No, just look toward the west between 7:00 and 12:00. It will be the brightest object in the sky. Sometimes Venus can be seen in the early mornings too. At dawn I think Venus is called the bright and morning star.

I love astronomy by the way, something I got from my mom I think! Here’s to more days and happy memories ahead *toasts with a coffee*

    • #4 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:33 AM

A toast to happy and happier days.

A little words from you this day yet explains almost what I wanna know !!

    • #6 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:33 AM

Almost what you want to know? What did I leave out Shira?

  4. #7 by Susannah Bianchi on April 21, 2012 - 5:09 PM

I agree, the best is yet to come.

    • #8 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:34 AM

I certainly hope so. How are you Susannah?

      • #9 by Susannah Bianchi on April 23, 2012 - 10:42 AM

OK, thanks for asking. I’m trying to figure out how to add photos. It’s mystifying me.

        • #10 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:43 AM

May I help? What are you trying to do?

          • #11 by Susannah Bianchi on April 23, 2012 - 10:51 AM

When I mention something like a Botero for instance, I want to be able to slide a picture near the text. I just don’t know how. Duh, said she.

          • #12 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:55 AM

I believe I can help. Below the title of your post you will see Upload/Insert and next to it a camera. Before clicking on the camera put your cursor next to the text you want the photo by. Click the camera and upload your image then click on insert. You can also pick the size you want to image or resize by clicking the image in the post. If you have more questions or if that did not help any… email me.

          • #13 by Susannah Bianchi on April 23, 2012 - 11:16 AM

What if I want to download from the internet rather than my personal file?

          • #14 by Susannah Bianchi on April 23, 2012 - 12:22 PM

I followed your steps. Worked so thank you so, so much. Hate when I can’t do something.

High school was a nightmare I’d rather not think about. The only good thing was leaving one year early.

About the phone app, I suspect you’re talking iPhone, because there’s a free app for Android called Google Sky that does the same thing. It’s great, especially when the kids ask what something is in the sky.

    • #16 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:35 AM

I’ve seen Google Sky but I thought Night Sky would have been available for both operating systems.

I think life just gets better with the years… like a good wine.
I absolutely didn’t have the time of my life in highschool. It was cool but not “awesome”.
I’ve just finished my 5th year at university and it was the best year so far. But I’m sure next year will be even better!
By the way I’m soooo jealous, I want your app!!

    • #18 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:36 AM

You don’t need the app to still be able to see the planets. Things will be a bit different in the southern hemisphere though!

  7. #19 by savesprinkles1234 on April 21, 2012 - 11:20 AM

Astronomy is so much more facinating than any of my high school years ever were! In fact, I would dread repeating them! I do have several friends from high school that I still talk to and see occasionally, but, like you I prefer to look to the future!

    • #20 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:39 AM

Looking ahead and hoping things are better just makes sense (to me) even if high school was the best. It just means years to come will be even better than high school.

  8. #21 by Juan202020 on April 21, 2012 - 10:38 AM

If only I was smart enough to have a smart phone! High school was a great time. A seriously great time but college is better.

    • #22 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:40 AM

Juan I’m sure you are smart enough, just not financially there yet.

  9. #23 by ambrosiapeyton on April 21, 2012 - 7:59 AM

So far my high school years have been a time of self discovery for me. I’m not super social so I don’t do much except hang out with friends. I had a great time as a kid and I am really enjoying life as a teen. I have bills, more responsibility and other perils of being an adult to look forward to but I want the best years to be ahead of me. I bought the app and will look for the planets tonight. Future, here I come.

    • #24 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:41 AM

You have a great attitude and I’m sure the future looks bright for you.

  10. #25 by Sofia on April 21, 2012 - 3:56 AM

I so agree! *cheers to the future*

  11. #27 by Vanessa Chapman on April 21, 2012 - 3:29 AM

I hated my school days, really hated them, yes I have a few really good friends that I still have now despite leaving school 25 years ago, but that is the only positive I can find. Despite having gone through some really tough times as an adult, it’s still much better than my school days were.

    • #28 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:43 AM

I’m happy to know things improved for you as you got older. Life is sometimes hard no matter what phase we are in.

  12. #29 by TemptingSweets99 on April 21, 2012 - 12:29 AM

How interesting! My friend just showed me the Night Sky app on his phone and I meant to purchase but forgot about it, until your post. I think it’s a very cool app. I agree that the best is yet to come — for all of us! :)

    • #30 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:44 AM

I think when I bought it it was on sale.

      • #31 by TemptingSweets99 on April 23, 2012 - 11:43 AM

really? well, i guess i’ll look for it when it’s on sale.

  13. #32 by AnonymousBurn on April 21, 2012 - 12:23 AM

Love your perspective here. I like to think the best times are ahead of it, too.

    • #33 by Tom Baker on April 23, 2012 - 10:48 AM

Thank you. I have an image that I added to a Funny post I worked on earlier but I want to share it so badly now. It’s about the future. I hope I can wait.
