Create Your Own Post

Yesterday I came across a new blog on my reader. If you have never used your reader to find new blogs to read or used the topics or tags pages to find content on blogs you might be interested in, you are missing out.

My daily ritual involves looking for and commenting on at least ten blogs I have never visited before. I came across Kyle Mews blog as you can see below. Kyle created a post for his 500th follower which involved a prize of sorts. I was not the 500th follower but I was at the same time. Another blogger beat me to it but then somehow someone unfollowed Kyle’s blog making me the second 500th follower. Confused yet? Of course not because you are all brilliant!

There was nothing in Kyle’s rule book saying there could not be a second 500th follower so I won the prize too. The prize is a post dedicated to the follower on any subject. The subject I choose was for Kyle to either do a review or a critique of Morning Erection. When he lets me know the post is live, I will let you know! Fair? Fair.

In other news tomorrow will be the first post in the series Photographic Excellence. This series will be similar to Poetic License but will only feature one image and one photographer. One very extraordinary photo! Please come back tomorrow to support someone who in my opinion is an excellent photographer. Thank you.

I wish the reader had the capability to “delete” the posts you have already looked at, instead of steadily scrolling through them. If it did, I would read tons more than I do now!!

That is a great idea as long as it would be a feature you could turn on and off. Sometimes I would like to visit a blog and need to scroll through to help my memory. Other times it would be great to skip through them. I’m not too fond of the scrolling feature onost sites anyway. Too much time waiting for page loads.

I tried telling Matt Mullenweg to make it happen, and he actually said “cool idea” so now I’m wondering why it’s not already done! LOL

I didn’t know you know people in high places. Good for you. Maybe it’s a feature that is in the works.

I don’t. My husband is actually his cousin. See, his biological father made him at the age of 16 and took off, so when my husband met him many years later, he was a Mullenweg (Matt’s uncle). Funny thing is they always said Matt would either go broke or go big. Guess he got to go big, but I don’t really know him at all, I couldn’t even get myself Freshly Pressed! LOL

But if I ever figure out how to get myself on the payroll for blogging, I will let you know! :)

          • #11 by Tom Baker on May 18, 2012 - 6:15 PM

If you can figure it out you can Freshly Press yourself and then adopt me!

What luck…and a great idea to read 10 blogs you’ve never read before. I use the reader but never gave myself a number guideline. Will change that now!

Sometimes it is more but ten allows me to have access to new things and introduces ten new bloggers to my site if they decide to visit. You will see new friends and less important bu nice too, new followers.

Your blog is one of my favorites. It is guileless and direct. Thanks for encouraging me to be more involved in the wordpress community.

    • #18 by Tom Baker on May 17, 2012 - 12:42 PM

Thank you. My heart is touched by your words. Get involved for sure. There is nothing ‘virtual’ about the friendships and relationships that you will make while blogging.

I just discovered Kyle’s blog today and followed it. Perhaps I was the third 500th follower? LOL! Congrats on being the second 500th follower and winning the prize. I look forward to your Photo Excellence series. Cool.
