I’m only four years late but I just watched an addition to the Star Trek franchise universe of motion pictures. The movie is called Star Trek: Of Gods And Men. It was filmed in 2006 and released in 2007 on what some would call a laughably small budget. The cast features some of Star Trek’s most elite and beloved characters. Nichelle Nichols as Captain Uhuru, Walter Koenig as Captain Chekov, Tim Russ as Tuvok (who also directed the film) and Garrett Wang as Garan.
Do you remember Charlie X from the original series? Charlie returns after having escaped his forty years of captivity to seek revenge on Captain Kirk. Upon learning that Kirk has been dead for almost twelve years, he seeks his revenge upon him from the past.
The movie is set in the year 2306 where the dedication of the U.S.S. Enterprise – M is set to be dedicated when they receive a distress call. The thing is I really enjoyed this movie and I have not seen so much poor acting since I was in high school.
The movie is broken up online into three 30 minute parts so it is easy to watch a little or a lot whenever you have the time. To learn more about the movie before watching it, check out what Wikipedia has to say about Star Trek: Of Gods And Men.
This isn’t much of a review to be honest. I liked the film and you might like it to. You can view it online for free by clicking on the DVD artwork.
If you have already seen the movie let me know what you thought of it. Regardless of what you do, live long and prosper!

Next week is the beginning of November and my guest blogger this month is Lakia Gordon. Lakia approached me with an idea and I thought it might be best expressed through a guest post. Lakia has been working on a project and she will share with you, as only Lakia can, just what it is all about. Suffice it to say she has put into it a lot of blood, sweat and tears into the project and is busting at the seems wanting to spread the word. Stop by on Saturday, November 5th to see what the commotion is all about.
It was Saber’s site What’s Up With That?!? and a few of her posts that had me interested in the hidden facts behind everyday things. Not wanting to blatantly steal her ideas, I decided to concentrate solely on the things that interest me. That would include mostly movies and television. For instance, did you know that two of the most quoted lines from cinema are misquoted?
In Casablanca, Bogart never said, “Play it again Sam.” What he actually said was “You played it for her, you can play it for me…If she can stand it, I can. Play it!” It was Bergman who said, “Play it, Sam.”
Captain Kirk will perhaps be misquoted for generations to come. Perhaps the most misquoted TV line, “Beam me up, Scotty,” was never uttered by Shatner. He did come close once by saying, “Scotty, beam me up.”
Today’s little known fact comes from Star Trek coincidentally. I’m going to take a leap of faith and assume anyone reading this post has seen Air Force One. Supposedly their is an escape pod for the President in case of emergency. It turns out that Galaxy Class and Sovereign Class Federation ships also have something similar to an escape pod. It is called the Captain’s Yacht and it is directly below the main bridge on the very bottom of the saucer section. Conflicting information suggests it was not meant for escape for the vessel’s captain but for diplomatic envoys, such as the transportation of dignitaries and ambassadors.
Although the design schematics for the Federation vessels clearly show the Captain’s Yacht, they were never shown on the series or movies and never mentioned either. Patrick Stewart said the name of his yacht was The Calypso. On The Enterprise-E, (Star Trek: Insurrection) it was The Cousteau.
I’m not one who likes to spend lots of time doing research so don’t expect these Little Known Facts often. Only when my spirit moves me.
Tomorrow’s guest blogger is Ava Aston. I hope you had the time this week to visit Ava’s blog, Recording Artist Ava Aston’s Blog. If not I would advise you to do so to get you even more excited about her post tomorrow. She is an amazing blogger and a great singer. I hope in addition to reading her blog you have the chance to listen to some of her songs on YouTube!
Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Morning Wood. Its ongoing mission to explore strange new blogs, to seek out new lifeforms and new commentaries. To boldly go where no blogger has gone before.
Seriously. I am officially a trash picker. I opened up this post knowing with certainty that I had finished it last week. To my amazement only the above first sentences were here. Am I crazy? I remember writing this on a notepad last week when I was watching Undercovers. Afterward I created a new post and typed the whole thing out. Maybe I closed out the computer without saving the post. Only heaven knows!
Regardless, I found myself looking to find a balled up piece of paper in the bottom of the trash can and there it was with a couple of ideas for new posts as well. Thank goodness I’m lazy and that trashcan doesn’t get much use.
Are you a fan of Star Trek, the original series? Did you enjoy the latest Star Trek movie? There is news out concerning the next Star Trek movie, Star Trek XII. Due to be released in 2012, JJ Abrams (creator of Undercovers), has given some insight on the film. There are two absolutes about the next Trek movie. First, Khan will not be the villain as many Star Trek fans were hoping to see. Second, the script is said to have a traditional character from the original series.
Unless Abrams is not telling the truth, Khan is out of the picture. I’m wondering who it might be because there are a great number to choose from. Will the person be a friend or foe? I have spoken with some folks at Lightspeed Productions and they tell me that in some of the art work they sell you can see what appears to be computer chips and processors. I was informed that it’s there because the Borg around in Kirk’s time.
I don’t want to see the Borg, the Talosians, the Klingon’s, Romulans or even Harry Mudd. What I did want was a Next Generation (before Generations) movie with Janeway, Sisko, Picard and Kirk all joined together to fight against some of the members of the Q Continuum. Since Kirk is both dead and in the Nexus I don’t see my dream movie coming to fruition.
To my surprise I learned in Star Trek lore, the Q Continuum was around in the original series. The Q in question (like what I did there), was Trelane. The character of Trelane from the episode, The Squire of Gothos is a young spoiled Q. That is who I would love to see in the next Star Trek movie. An even younger Trelane who is even more childish and immature.
If you are a fan of the show or the movies do you have any suggestions for a traditional Star Trek character to appear in the movie? Perhaps a better question for me is when will they fix the time line to align with what we know Trek to be.
Skyline opens today. If you see it, let me know what you think of it.
