At first I thought this was one of those mashup videos with the Dallas Cowboys and the aliens from the Alien franchise. Quite the contrary. This is a real movie that is scheduled for release during the summer of 2011. Steven Spielberg is the executive director and the producer of Iron Man, Jon Favreau is directing.
Cowboys & Aliens has both an impressive cast and directors and producers. Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig for starters. After I got over the initial shock of realizing this was a serious movie I became intrigued. I watched the trailer again and it seems I might like this movie. Of course April and I don’t frequent movie theaters. We prefer the comfort of our couch and it really isn’t a hassle waiting for the DVD release. That means I’m going to count on Cherlyn Cochrane to give me the review on the movie if she sees it. If she does, I will be sure to let you know with a link to her site. July 2011. Cowboys & Aliens!
2011 looks to be the year of the movie superhero. It should be a very lucrative summer for Hollywood. X-Men First Class, The Green Hornet, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Green Lantern.
Official Press Release for Cowboys & Aliens:
Blockbuster filmmaker Jon Favreau directs Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in an event film for summer 2011 that crosses the classic Western with the alien-invasion movie in a blazingly original way: Cowboys & Aliens. Joined by an arsenal of top moviemakers-Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci-he brings an all-new action thriller that will take audiences into the Old West, where a lone cowboy leads an uprising against a terror from beyond our world.
1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear.
But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.
Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents-townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors-all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.
The script for Cowboys & Aliens is by Star Trek’s Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof (television’s Lost), based on Platinum Studios’ graphic novel created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. Grazer, Howard, Rosenberg, Kurtzman and Orci produce. Spielberg and Denis L. Stewart executive produce.

On Saturday January 1, 2011, New Years Day, Iris Orpi will be guest blogging. We will be starting the new year off with a great writer and poet. Her blog is Cognac For The Soul. I would stress upon you the mistake you would be making if you missed the opportunity to visit her site before her post goes live on Saturday. I can assure you, you will enjoy reading her writings.
There are some very interesting movies coming our way soon. The one I am most interested in is The Expendables. Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Jason Statham all in the same movie. It’s bound to be a let down but I’m going to see it anyway. You already know of my interest in Skyline.
I usually get my information on superhero and sci-fi movies from Chris Ferrell. Remember he was my first guest blogger and runs Nerds Of The Round Table. He hasn’t had any new posts since June so I am filling myself and my readers in on what I have found out.
Sadly there will be no more Fantastic Four movies but in 2012 we can look forward to an X-Men prequel. Kevin Bacon has signed on to be the villain.
There are a slew of rumors surrounding the new Batman movie. Robin is supposedly going to be introduced. There are also rumors that Eddie Murphy is going to play the Riddler and Catwoman might also be in this one played by Rachel Weisz . One villain per movie please. Director Christopher Nolan hasn’t signed a contract yet and neither has anyone else, so don’t believe the rumors.
Scheduled releases for 2011 are The Green Hornet, The Green Lantern, X-Men: First Class and a remake of the classic, Fright Night. Scheduled releases for 2012 are Hancock 2, Monsters Inc. 2, and Star Trek XII.
In a unrelated note, Airplane! turned 30 this July so I want to know what is your favorite line from Airplane!?
Can you fly this plane, and land it?
Surely you can’t be serious.
I am serious… and don’t call me Shirley
