I could not possibly even pretend to know what it would be like; the joy, the overwhelming fear and awe in hearing your first sound after being deaf for a lifetime. I think after they listened to my CD I would want them to hear James Earl Jones too. Here is my list:

If there was room for another song I would have to include O’ Holy Night by Yolanda Adams. I think there is a nice sample of some of my favorites. As I thought of the songs to include it reminded me of when Commander Data first tasted a drink in Ten Forward and he didn’t like it. He had just put in his emotion chip and even though he hated what he was drinking he drank it all and asked for more. I imagine the person listening to my taste in music might have a similar reaction.

I like most of the song choices and anything Yolanda Adams does would be great for that person to hear. Judas Priest is Heavy Metal isn’t it? You have a wide variety of musical tastes.

I am not a fan of Heavy Metal but that song has such a pounding rythym and bass that I love it. I picked it because of the bass. I watched a person dance who was deaf but could feel the music on the floor.
Hindsight is 20/20 and now that I have already posted the list I realize now that there is one awesome song that I left out. I don’t know how I could have forgotten Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. The first time I heard that song, I was sitting in a college class and I cried. Real tears. It is a beautiful song and I could listen to that and Ravel’s Bolero all day everyday.

Are you my hubby in disguise? The music–the Next Generation clip…hmmmmmm! My husband is such a Trekkie that he can see a clip that is a few seconds long and name the original air date, title, and guest stars of all of the original Star Treks and Next Generations. Pretty cool and slightly Aspergian, huh!?

I cannot imagine the flow of emotions of being able to hear good music or anything for the first time. A good question, huh? I’m glad I thought of it!

Nervous to say the least when I clicked on your link. I was looking for mixed CD list to come up with an eclectic mix for my friends who are graduating and here is a site called morning erection. I’m glad my curiosity overpowered my fear. I’ve read a few of your first posts and the one on Whale Wars. I like the poetry collections too.
My friend is a dee jay so I’m sure he has most of your list. Money is tight but a mixed CD is something I can afford to give several of my friends. Thanks Tom. I will be back.

A great CD Indeed! And a great scene to show too. By the way, I totally love that part in the movie, it always gives me a good chuckle. I also love the life-forms song lol.
