30 Days Of Blogging Honesty: Day 2

[Caveat] – I should have included this little note on the first day of Blogging Honesty. I want to apologize to the bloggers I usually visit on a somewhat daily basis. Due to nature of this challenge and the number of people participating it might take me the entire month of April and some of May before I have the time to visit your blogs once again. I have not forgotten about you; I’m just exhausted!

Not including food, blogging or television, my most guilty pleasure (this includes chocolate)

Would have to be dancing. Not ballroom dancing. Not anything choreographed. Just pure feel the music, move it like you mean it dancing. I’ve always enjoyed dancing even though the Soul Train dancers would probably laugh me out of the line dance. I used to watch and copy exactly what they did. I can’t believe the show ran from 1971 to 2006. At parties I would stand on the wall unless there was a slow song and then I wouldn’t mind dancing.  Most of the times slow songs were for grinding and everyone usually had dates so still I was out in the cold.

I learned how to dance from watching the others dance from the wall. I also learned from Soul Train. When I got to college it was a different story. I reinvented myself and purposed to be more social. I would practice in the mirror in my dorm room and in front of the mirrors and in the showers. Quite frankly I was good and I made it known at every party I could go to. Songs come and go. Dances come and go but right now my favorite song to ‘get down’ to is Love On Top by Beyoncé.

In reality, it is a guilty pleasure because I’m not that good at dancing yet still I love doing it.

There has been a wide variety of subjects covered throughout the years by my guests, but this will be what I feel is the most personal of those posts. I bid you welcome back on the 7th to read a very open post. In the meantime, stop by her blog, Over A Cup Of Coffee and pay close attention to her poetry!

    there should be nothing guilty about this pleasure, Tom! Dance on!

  2. #2 by Jenn on April 9, 2012 - 8:51 AM

    On my goodness, I envy you. I always dreamed of learning how to dance. But I just can’t do it! Consider me a frustrated dancer. That’s why I stopped watching dance shows/contest. eeeek!

  3. #3 by bannatreasures on April 5, 2012 - 12:57 PM

    That sounds like a lot of fun! I’m intrigued because I’m largely a sedentary creature. I’m always impressed by people who dance and are having the time of their lives :) You sound like a great dancer to me, because you have so much fun doing it~!

  4. #4 by TemptingSweets99 on April 4, 2012 - 5:16 PM

    This post made me smile. I’m glad you like to dance, whether you think you’re a good dancer or not. I like Beyonce’s “Love on Top”.

    • #5 by Tom Baker on April 4, 2012 - 5:28 PM

      Dancing is just fun and it burns as many calories as walking. Dancing is much more fun than walking!

  5. #6 by brittany220 on April 4, 2012 - 4:08 PM

    I’m glad to hear you enjoy dancing Tom! I love dancing too….especially swing dance, and just regular goofy dancing too with friends.

    • #7 by Tom Baker on April 4, 2012 - 4:10 PM

      I would classify mine as goofy! Goofy but fun.

  6. #8 by Broken Sparkles on April 4, 2012 - 2:50 PM

    Shame we live so faraway, we have so much in common! Happy days Tom! Regards!

    • #9 by Tom Baker on April 4, 2012 - 5:33 PM

      If I’m ever in Greece, Egypt, we can dance the night away Blaga. I hope you like Prince too!

  7. #10 by mynakedbokkie on April 4, 2012 - 8:39 AM

    You should not feel guilty about dancing at all. That’s brilliant. X

    • #11 by Tom Baker on April 4, 2012 - 5:33 PM

      You say that yet you’ve never seen me dancing! Trust me but then again, perhaps you are right.

  8. #12 by Inside the Mind of Isadora on April 4, 2012 - 5:02 AM

    Woo – Hoo
    my favorite thing to do – dancing. It lifts your mood and takes you away with the music.
    I was a dancer – ballet, tap, jazz, ballroom – teacher for years. i always told the students – feel the music.
    Too many people stay on the sidelines waiting for the right song or are shy because they feel
    they are not good at it. Unless, you’re going to be a professional dancer why are you worrying.
    Listen to the Music and Dance ….
    loved this, Tom

    • #13 by Tom Baker on April 4, 2012 - 5:35 PM

      Isadora you are so right and as I was replying to the comment above yours I glanced down and saw your words. I said this on someone else’s blog – the only two people who should not dance in public are Cliff Huxtable and Elaine from Seinfeld.

      • #14 by Inside the Mind of Isadora on April 4, 2012 - 6:17 PM

        Both were hilarious when they danced. I think Ealine was an exaggeration as she looked handicaped when she danced. But – what a funny segment that was….!!!! Thanks for the reminder and the laugh.
        ~~~~ : – )
  9. #16 by Cherlyn on April 3, 2012 - 8:25 PM
    I’ve grown to love dancing more throughout the years – I used to embarrassed how I looked when I danced but lately I’ve just started to not care, it’s fun and I like it :) I love dancing to Beyonce too! So catchy! :)
    Oh I should start putting on links to other participants on my posts, I’ll start with tomorrow’s post :)
    • #17 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 8:45 PM
      So many dancers in the family! I really like that song for some reason. I think it’s the 60’s feel.
      • #18 by Cherlyn on April 3, 2012 - 8:57 PM
        Yeah maybe :) I also love her Single Ladies song, great one to dance to.
        • #19 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:02 PM
          Yes, but it takes a lot to dance like myself and remember I should not be imitating her! Just kidding. Would you be willing to dance with me?
  10. #20 by prysmatique on April 3, 2012 - 7:23 PM
    I’m Indian, dancing is practically in my blood. I live and breathe the music when it plays, so I understand why it’s your pleasure! Don’t feel guilty at all! You’d be surprised at how many people think they don’t know how to dance when they look perfectly exquisite on the floor.
    • #21 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 8:40 PM
      Exqusite, sounds nice, but that ain’t me sister!
  11. #23 by Sofia on April 3, 2012 - 5:39 PM
    I love love to Dance…. :)
    • #24 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 6:28 PM
      What is your favorite dance song?
      • #25 by Sofia on April 4, 2012 - 2:53 AM
        Thriller
        • #26 by Sofia on April 4, 2012 - 3:06 AM
          lol just kidding. I love salsa songs. :)
  12. #27 by Tiffany (lifewithblondie) on April 3, 2012 - 3:42 PM
    My kids and I crank up YouTube til the walls are shaking and then we all dance like MTV should be looking for us to star in the next big show “Crazy kids that dance funky”… I love those days. We all sing too! Being on key is not a requirement!! :)
    • #28 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 6:39 PM
      Being on key would just ruin the fun! Sounds like great quality time.
  13. #29 by savesprinkles1234 on April 3, 2012 - 8:42 AM
    I love dancing, too and I really love club music. My daughters and I, when we have the time, will turn on the music and have our own little dance party. However, dancing isn’t my true guilty pleasure; trash television is! I love all of the horrible shows on TLC and shows like Teen Mom. I guess I’m just fascinated by how other people live.
    • #30 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:25 AM
      I hate reality TV and if I had remembered how much I hate it, I would have written that instead of Twitter for day one. I see or rather I was told that most people who love reality TV like the fact that other people’s lives are a bigger train wreck than their own.
      As for dancing, sometimes I dance until my muscles have run out energy to dance any longer. Then I need orange juice or a banana to replace the loss of potassium. Then I dance some more. Dance marathons used to be something I really enjoyed. Do you have a favorite song to dance to?
  14. #31 by LJ on April 3, 2012 - 8:20 AM
    Dancing is fun, especially if you will just listen to the music and make the rhythm control your moves. That is cool!
    • #32 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:13 AM
      I agree with you about letting the music control you. Maybe it is the only time you should let yourself freely go and let something else take control.
  15. #33 by koisevilla on April 3, 2012 - 8:09 AM
    I believe a person has not truly lived until he has danced…grooved…wiggled…shook… Ü it’s freedom with spunk! Ü awesome ü
    • #34 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:11 AM
      If that is the case, I have lived with plenty of spunk! What is your favorite song to dance to?
      • #35 by koisevilla on April 3, 2012 - 11:20 AM
        It depends on my mood..but mostly, I dance-rock to the tune of I Love Rock and Roll :)) you?
  16. #37 by nenskei on April 3, 2012 - 7:58 AM
    I love to dance tho simply don’t know how! I need more practice to be a good one! And I just learned last night, there’s fb page, a belly dancer named Shira. LOL
    • #38 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:10 AM
      Practice is good and as long as you are not trying to dance professionally, you can dance. The right music and with you in the right frame of mind. You will have so much enjoyment from it, you will swear you can dance.
  17. #39 by AnonymousBurn on April 3, 2012 - 7:53 AM
    I’m pretty awful at dancing but when I’m in the grocery store, my car, or the gym – I just can’t stop myself. I was once told “just let yourself go, I promise you it’s sexy” from a man who’d seen me dancing. Freedom is sexy. Dance on!
    • #40 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:09 AM
      He was right. The way we see ourselves as we dance is not the same as others see us. Dancing is freeing. The only two people who should not dance is Elaine from Seinfeld and Cliff Huxtable from the Cosby show.
  18. #41 by Addie on April 3, 2012 - 7:44 AM
    Kuya, how would you like to dance with your bunso to this very lovely music:
    :)
    • #42 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:07 AM
      Bunso Addie, it would be an honor to dance with you and I love this song. Thank you for sharing it. If you know of any other music just like this I would be interested in hearing that too. Especially Spanish guitar and jazz. This song made my morning.
      • #43 by Addie on April 3, 2012 - 9:10 AM
        I knew you’d like it! Good morning, Kuya!
        • #44 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 6:44 PM
          I do love it Addie!
          • #45 by Broken Sparkles on April 4, 2012 - 2:49 PM
            I love it too! Glad to have gone through the comments! Just listening to it makes my heart dance!
          • #46 by Tom Baker on April 4, 2012 - 5:32 PM
            iTunes says I have listened to it 53 times so far. I guess this is our song Addie!
  19. #47 by PM on April 3, 2012 - 7:20 AM
    i don’t know how to dance tom but i’d certainly go dancing with you! :D
    • #48 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:05 AM
      And I you Prinsesa. We would have a great time. We all need a blogger meet-up at least once in our lifetime. I’m sure you dance fine. Just move your body and sway to the sound of the music. Anyone can dance!
  20. #49 by terriblethinker on April 3, 2012 - 6:29 AM
    I can exactly understand what you feel. Actually, dancing is one of my really guilty pleasures also. It makes you feel so good, to open yourself out.. do carry on what you love doing, you can train yourself along the way. Cheers
    • #50 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:03 AM
      I use dancing as form of exercise too. What a sweaty workout.
      • #51 by terriblethinker on April 3, 2012 - 9:56 AM
        yes but is fun atleast.. so you have double advantage :-)
  21. #52 by Mariana on April 3, 2012 - 4:09 AM
    I wish I was a much better dancer than I am! One day I will conquer the dance world!
    I have to, it’s on my life list.
    “19. Learn to Dance”
    • #53 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:00 AM
      You don’t have to learn any particular dance step in order to have fun but I know how you feel. I would love to do the Tango. I watched True Lies and fell in love with that dance or was it the music?
      • #54 by Mariana on April 3, 2012 - 1:33 PM
        I’ve always wanted to learned the Salsa. I think it’s because since I’m Mexican and have Spanish roots the music just calls to me.
        I’m not sure about the Tango for me. It looks so intense that I’d probably burst out laughing and ruin it. :3
        • #55 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 2:03 PM
          Maybe you would laugh the first time but the intensity might reel you in.
  22. #56 by veehcirra on April 3, 2012 - 2:50 AM
    Nice guilty pleasure Tom, I too love dancing.
    Now am wondering, what is your favorite dancing style?
    I recently wrote an article on “Why You Dance The Way You Do” http://wp.me/p1KAMO-B0, please check it out.
    This song by Beyonce is awesomeness :)
    • #57 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 8:58 AM
      I did see the post but my style is I have no real style. My style changes with partners and music. I just love to do it. Beyonce sounds just as good live as she does recorded.
  23. #58 by Vanessa Chapman on April 3, 2012 - 2:38 AM
    This is all very well, but where is a video clip of you dancing huh?
    • #59 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 8:56 AM
      Vanessa, you must have missed the tagline for this blog. A video of me dancing would not be acceptable by me or anyone else who would be unfortunate enough to see it!
      • #60 by Vanessa Chapman on April 3, 2012 - 9:16 AM
        Nope, I still can’t see that tagline, but it would certainly be acceptable to me to see you dancing! :
        • #61 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:27 AM
          Here is the tagline Vanessa; A home-nudist who knows that sometimes thoughts, like morning erections, just spring forth and take on a life of their own… You don’t want to see me dancing in the nude, trust me and that is how I live out my days unless I go to work of course.
          • #62 by Vanessa Chapman on April 3, 2012 - 9:33 AM
            Oh THAT tagline, I thought you meant something specific to this post. Gotcha now, yes, maybe best to not post that video after all.
          • #63 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 9:35 AM
            Even better if I don’t make it!
  24. #64 by Sylvia on April 3, 2012 - 12:34 AM
    Right on! Dancing is good for the soul. I, myself, prefer chair dancing or car dancing. :) And in the words of the late Don Cornelius– “we wish you love, peace, and soul!”
    • #65 by Tom Baker on April 3, 2012 - 8:46 AM
      Don’t forget the kiss right before soul, Sylvia! I thought about you when I was writing this post because you love Dancing With the Stars.
  1. POLL: Which of these songs would most likely be on your iPod?
